Le Pin

Luohan Vegetables Deluxe and Le Pin
The dish “Luohan Vegetables Deluxe” takes its roots from Jiangsu, Zhejiang cuisine. Despite the Buddhist reference, ‘luohan’ meaning arhat, in its name, the dish is not originated from Buddhism. It is commonly seen in Han family meals in the Jiangsu, Zhejiang regions and widely featured in birthday banquets in Southern China.
A traditional Luohan Vegetables Deluxe is based on shiitake mushrooms, accompanied by other vegetarian ingredients like dried tofu sheets, black fungi, bamboo shoots, carrots and St. George’s mushrooms, etc. After being sliced, julienned or treated with decorative cuts, the vegetables are sautéed, drizzled with rice wine and seasoning before sesame oil and a light glazing sauce is poured on the delicacy at the moment of serving.
Led by mushrooms and complemented with assorted vegetables, Luohan Vegetables Deluxe is refreshing and light on the palate. A great wine to drink with the dish is Le Pin of Pomerol. Predominately Merlot, Le Pin possesses rich, round fruit scents with silky tannins, and will strike an interesting harmony with the particular fragrance and unctuous texture of mushrooms. Early 2016.
